You're invited! We will be hosting a community dance exploration through a conversation circle, and we’d love for you to be a part of it. We held one back in February at the Neighbourhood Shop, now we are offering a second version online to give access to more people!
We all know that music influences movement, as does our environment. As dancers, our connection to dance is shaped by personal identity and the cultural context we move within. This session offers a great opportunity for us to come together and reflect on what it means to be a dancer in our community and at home.
In a world where many approaches to dance follow patriarchal, colonial structures, this conversation seeks to reframe and expand the possibilities for how we engage with dance. How can we, as a diverse community of dancers, honour both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations while embracing all forms of dance, recreational and professional alike?
We will explore questions of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) in dance, discuss the challenges and opportunities of dance in Halifax, and brainstorm ways to create more inclusive, community-driven spaces where all dancers feel welcome.
Why Attend?
Share your personal journey as a dancer.
Connect with dancers of various backgrounds, experiences, and skill levels.
Help shape an inclusive, community-driven dance session that focuses on collaboration, respect, and joy.
Discuss your participation in a future “We Are All Dancers” session that welcomes everyone, no matter their background or ability.
We’re looking for an equal representation of both professional and recreational dancers to contribute to this important conversation. Whether dance is your profession or your passion, this is an inclusive space for all.
